NÜWIEL wins 1st place at the Digital Logistics Award 2019

A smart bicycle trailer as a key component of intelligent last mile logistics convinced the specialist audience at the “Logistics Future Congress – 37th Dortmund Talks”: The 500 participants placed the Hamburg start-up NÜWIEL in first place. A total of eight equally competent and friendly start-ups and start-ins competed for the award and once again proved what decisive impulses they can give to tomorrow’s logistics.

1st Place: 15.000 Euro

Founded in 2016, NÜWIEL drives the vision of freeing urban spaces from noise, traffic jams and air pollution: The electrically powered bicycle trailer for Last Mile logistics developed by the Hamburg start-up has patented technology so it can automatically follow the movement of a bicycle.

2nd Place: 8.000 Euro

ForkOn from Haltern am See makes the management of forklift truck fleets simpler and more transparent. The manufacturer-independent software solution of the start-up company founded in 2017 brings together all data relating to the forklift fleet of companies, and analyses and interprets them. As a result, the average costs of forklift fleets should be reduced by 25 percent.

3rd Place: 3.000 Euro

The start-up company asurveyor.com from Cape Town is currently being set up to simplify and improve the quality control of fruit and vegetables across the entire supply chain with a simple app. The blockchain-safe solution also delivers automated status reports from remote areas.

In its third year, the Digital Logistics Award has found its fixed place in the logistics start-up scene. For the second time, the Digital Hub has put the award out to international competition. The majority of the solutions this year came from the field of transport logistics. The majority of start-ups represent platform solutions. The technologies used – whether artificial intelligence, machine learning, sensor technology or blockchain – also lead the way into the future.

Jury

The eight finalists for the Digital Logistics Award were selected by a five-member jury: This year’s jury included Marcus Gropp (Klöckner Shared Services GmbH), Dr. Stephan Peters (Rhenus SE) and Christina Thurner (LOXXESS AG) as well as Claas Nieraad (Next Logistics Accelerator) and Karolin Hewelt (Digital Hub Agency RCKT).

"Our system lives through openness - and the Digital Hub Logistics has given us the opportunity with its award to integrate new partners into this system."

Tim Klauke, Founder ForkOn

The ForkOn team – like some of the other finalists – had applied for a Founder’s Prize for the first time ever. Priceless for the young companies: the many contacts they were able to establish through participation in the Digital Hub Logistics competition and the presentation at the Future Logistics Congress.

"The application for the Digital Logistics Award was based on a recommendation from our network. It was a particular incentive for us to be able to present our online shop solution for freight forwarders in a pitch to a large specialist audience."

Leif-Hermann Lühmann, Founder of frachtklub, Cuxhaven, Finalist 2019

Frachtklub also took the opportunity to get to know other start-ups and make contacts in the field of research. Cooperation projects with scientific institutions are definitely an exciting opportunity for the start-up company to develop further.

"Dortmund is a logistics hot spot for us. That's why the Digital Logistics Award presented by the Dortmund Hub is so important for our start-up."

Jakob Muus, Founder of Tracks, Berlin, Finalist 2019

Many of Tracks’ customers and potential customers are located in the Ruhr area. The Digital Logistics Award drew a lot of attention to the topic of “predictive fuel analyses for truck fleets”.

"We are a strongly feedback-driven company: Everyone can test our Loadster - the first bicycle that can replace a commercial vehicle - to gain experience. From that we can develop further."

Sven Kindervater, CMO of Citkar, Berlin, Finalist 2019

Participation in the Digital Logistics Award with the pitch at the Future Logistics Congress gave the start-up the opportunity to get in touch with a specialist audience and simply listen to what they had to say: What do you like and what do you miss?
